Global Skills Exchange turning three!
The Global Skills Exchange turned three on 15th July 2010!
I would like to thank you, the clients and candidates for giving me the opportunity to work with you. I remain committed to matching candidates and clients to ensure both parties are attaining growth achievement and reward.
Setting Sail…
By Leonie Ellis
In the previous edition of The Explorer I indicated that you and I were going to set sail through the harbour and into the open seas on a journey that will allow us to share in adventures and insights.
As you may know my philosophy is to ensure that both candidates and teams attain “growth, achievement and reward” in the long term as a result of the placements I make. Over the years in the recruiter’s chair, I have received feedback that one of the barriers to some teams not achieving the best they can is as a result of not having AUTHENTIC conversations between employer and employee. There are many reasons for this lack of transparency in communication such as: power plays, clutter created by transformation and a clash in personalities.
My desire is to create a forum to discuss the barriers we experience within the communication process, so that we are ultimately dealing with real differences between people to effect change. Listen to or download my conversation with Leonard Carr below.
Transformation: An Authentic Conversation (with Leonard Carr)
Recently I was introduced to Leonard Carr, who facilitates the transformation of unconscious companies/teams/employees into conscious ones. His name slipped into the conversation, when a team member was enthusing about participating in an authentic conversation with her line manager as a result of Leonard’s facilitation. This discussion was the first time that both parties ‘got each other’ without labels or prejudice. I was compelled to share Leonards’ insights with you in this edition as I see communication being one of the greatest barriers when teams do not achieve their vision.
I am not assuming these conversations are not being had! Rather I am opening the conversation for robust debate. I appreciate am wondering into uncomfortable territory that has evoked reactions (I relayed some of this recorded conversation over dinner with very dear friends who nearly showed me to the door before dessert).
Listen to or download the free audio from the Transformation Conversation after the link. I also encourage you to respond to this issue by posting your comment – let’s start a constructive debate that will add value to participating in conscious environments. The first five respondents will receive a copy of this month’s book review selection ‘Steering by Starlight!’
Book Review: Steering By Starlight – Martha Beck
In the first edition of ‘The Explorer’ I ended with an invitation to start sailing with me out of the harbour, into the great unknown following the stars and sharing in each other’s adventures and insights. Recently I came across a book I believe will help all those looking to set sail. How? The author helps the explorer define a map of where they are going so that the journey to their destiny is effective.
‘Steering by Starlight’ provides a key for those of you who are looking to chart a course or path that will allow you to “live while you are alive”.
Update on Compliance Professionalism Qualification and Designations
I attended a presentation during June outlining the latest developments pertaining to the Professionalism Qualification and Designations for the compliance sector.
As a recruiter in this sector, I have watched how this relatively new career path has taken shape over the past few years. The role is becoming more strategic and multifaceted. Upgrading the educational/professional framework will add a skills depth that the market is ready for (in my considered opinion).

Networking Event: Looking Your Best!
23rd August 18h00 – 20h30
I had the privilege of meeting with Petra Laranjo, director of Fifth Quadrant Productions, this month (www.5quad.co.za). Petra is passionate about ensuring her clients (men and women) have the tools to reach their best visual potential.
I have asked her to share some of her knowledge with those that are interested. As summer is just around the corner her insights will assist you when assessing your current wardrobe and how to maximise your investment in your image for the new season (and life).
If this is of interest to you please email me on leonie@career.co.za for an invitation.
